Some Distinctive Wall Fountain Designs

We've talked about the numerous benefits inherent to having a nice wall fountain in your home, from soothing mental spaces to moisturizing the air, to just creating a private nook for reading. Now it's time to actually look at some models of wall fountains, and see how they beautify your home.

One example of a lovely wall fountain is the Whispering Creek collection. Built from a mix of naturally colored stones, they're built from a variety of backing material, usually slate, and they're artisanal hand crafted home décor items. With frames made from a number of contrasting and accentuating materials, they're beautiful, and can be chosen for color and positioning to handle any room coloring and lighting situation. With the Whispering Creek collection, the water flows over the stonework, creating a lovely finish reminiscent of a contained waterfall, and the tinkling burble of a woodland creek. A similar design, but somewhat larger, are the higher end designs from Inspiration Falls; made from treated copper with a fillagreed 'brazen' design, these designs use a rich, brown marble that shows petrified tree roots, giving it a splash of color. Other Inspiration Falls designs use other materials, ranging from stainless steel bezels for a more modern, industrial look, to lacquered surfaces in a variety of earth tones. The backplanes other fountains are made from green or gray slate, quarried in India, and each piece is handmade and assembled, ensuring that no two look the same.

Another, less expensive design comes from Cascade Springs, and an example of this is the Mirror Backed model, which uses a nickel and glass mirror plate (or in a few cases, pebbled aluminum or steel) to allow your wall fountain to become a light gathering item on your wall – this is a beautiful way to add subtle, indirect light to a darker corner of your living room.

Cascade Springs also makes slate backed fountains with a number of décor choices, with top and bottom metal working in treated copper, along with stainless steel and aged brass.  All of the Cascade Springs designs are clear coated to prevent tarnishing.  Examples in the Cascade Springs collection include black and green slates, some with additional hand worked features, and marble accents are available, depending on your price range.

All of the designs mentioned above are "portrait" laid out fountains – ones that are between 48 and 60 inches tall and roughly 24 inches wide; these make them ideal for entryways or office space where they need to be decorative without blocking foot traffic.  They also work nicely in apartments, since they don't require tapping into existing plumbing lines for their water flow system.

All of the fountain designs here can be had for reasonable prices – most are under $2,000, and a few are under $500 for the smaller models.  They all come with warranties and easy installation instructions to make mounting them and setting them up a snap.  Most can be handled by anyone who's worked with a drill and a carpenter's level before, though you'll want some assistance for the ones with stone backing plates – they're heavy enough that a second pair of hands really helps, but designed to be installed with ease.
